Gossip: Liverpool eye Leeds loanee; Bayern to swoop on PSG?
REDS AND WHITE?
With Dejan Lovren set to leave Anfield with a Premier League winner’s medal in his back pocket, Liverpool will almost certainly look to add another centre-back to their ranks this summer. Apparently, they are looking at a Brighton defender currently making waves in the Championship.
Ben White is spending the season on loan at Leeds and his form has caught the eye of many other clubs, Liverpool being one of them. That’s the claim made by The Athletic’s Leeds scribe, Phil Hay.
In a Q&A, Hay was asked what options the Whites have for taking White on a permanent deal. His answer, in short, was ‘none’. Brighton are thought to want White back next season, potentially to replace Lewis Dunk who continues to be linked with a big-money move.
But ‘look out for Liverpool’. It’s claimed Andy O’Brien – the ex-Newcastle and Republic of Ireland defender who now serves as a scout at Anfield – has been ‘watching White closely’ before the champions elect look to reinforce their squad during a potentially big summer on Merseyside.
PREM TRIO TARGET LEEDS MIDFIELDER
Leeds could also lose another one of their key players this summer should they fall apart again…
Sunday’s Gossip recycled the whispers that Sheffield United were casting envious eyes across Yorkshire at Leeds over Kalvin Phillips. This morning, the Daily Star chucks in another couple of Premier League suitors.
Wolves and Burnley are also said to be keen on the midfielder, who has attracted interest from Manchester United in the past. Much here will hinge on whether Leeds can avoid choking again in the promotion race. Should they make it back to the Premier League, then neither they nor the player will be interested in any move.
BAYERN EYE PSG BOSS
The managerial merry-go-round is expected to be in full swing this summer, with Thomas Tuchel one of the coaches ready to ride.
The PSG coach has served a couple of years in Paris, which has to be close to the maximum attention span of a squad like his. Indeed, L’Equipe reports that Tuchel has never felt more isolated in Paris following their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, which was damaging but hardly irretrievable.
So Bayern Munich’s interest comes at the perfect time for Tuchel. Bayern have taken heir sweet time in their search for a permanent replacement for Niko Kovac, who was sacked before Christmas. Apparently, Tuchel’s name is moving towards the top of their list.
Should PSG need a new coach, then they could turn to one of a couple of Italians. Max Allegri is highly-rated by Leonardo, while Maurizio Sarri has also been linked.
AND THE REST
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has an automatic renewal clause at AC Milan if they qualify for the Champions League… Barcelona are eyeing Valencia defender Hugo Guillamon… Crystal Palace are looking at Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic… Aston Villa and West Ham are keen on Gillingham defender Jack Tucker… Rangers are interested in West Brom’s teenage winger Rayhaan Tulloch.
