Gossip: Five CBs linked with Liverpool and Man Utd
The gossip has Liverpool and Manchester United battling for centre-halves…
MAN UNITED EYE ALABA
‘Manchester United want to hijack David Alaba’s proposed move to Real Madrid,’ according to the Daily Star, who claim that Chelsea and PSG are also interested in the Austrian defender (Liverpool have been linked before) but United are ‘confident’ they can secure the Bayern Munich man with the promise of a £12m-a-year contract.
The problem? The Star say that ‘Solskjaer will be forced to off-load the likes of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot to make way for Alaba’. Oh dear. Well, we guess that Alaba is off to Madrid then.
AND MAN UNITED EYE KABAK
‘Manchester United have joined the clubs expressing an interest in Schalke defender Ozan Kabak,’ says the Daily Mail. They claim that Schalke are now willing to sell the 20-year-old Turk for just £25m after lowering their asking price from £40m. We already know that Liverpool are interested in Kabak, with some claims that Divock Origi is being offered in part-exchange.
RB Leipzig are also interested in Kabak and they could need a new defender with Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate both targets for Liverpool and Manchester United.
LIVERPOOL LINKED WITH LANKY CENTRE-HALF
Sven Botman has been a revelation at Lille since his summer move from Ajax for little more than £7m and – according to Foot Mercato – ‘in recent days, some echoes from England suggested an interest from Liverpool. According to our information, Liverpool have indeed expressed their interest to the player’s representative and contacted him during the month of November.’
Botman is over 6′ 4″ and despite being only 20, he has played in every Ligue Un game this season for top-of-the-table Lille. But they have serious financial difficulties and so may need to sell the Dutchman in January for £27m. Which would be a lovely profit if Liverpool were not previously willing – reportedly – to spend £45m.
Why did Ajax agree to sell Sven Botman to Lille for just €10m? 20-year-old newly-made Dutch international central defender putting in monstrous performance after monstrous performance.
