Gossip: Man City to sign two former Reds strikers

LUK WHO MIGHT BE COMING BACK TO MANCHESTER
Manchester City are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a 4-1 win over champions Liverpool (read 16 Conclusions here) without an actual striker, so what do they now need? An actual striker who has scored 20 goals already this season for Inter Milan and an astonishing 54 in 78 since arriving in Milan from Manchester United.

It seems Romelu Lukaku may be forced out of Inter because of their financial problems and Calcio Mercato say there are ‘no lack of proposals’ for the Belgian, with PSG looking for a new No. 9 (Tottenham will not listen to Harry Kane offers) and Manchester City finally looking to buy a prolific striker.

INGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER
The Athletic also reveal that Lukaku is a target for Manchester City as he would be seen as a cheaper alternative to other options like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, but they also say that ‘City’s recruitment operation is sufficiently advanced to prepare for most eventualities, such as the idea of acquiring two new forwards’. And they put forward the name of Southampton striker Danny Ings.

They claim that City could look at ‘sending players in the opposite direction as part of the package’ rather than actually paying a sizeable transfer fee for Ings, who is stalling on a new Saints deal as he clearly fancies a return to the upper echelons of the Premier League.

ARSENAL TARGET YOUNG LEFT-BACK
Also in The Athletic, David Ornstein claims that signing a new left-back was never a priority for Arsenal in the winter transfer window – despite linked with Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt. The Gunners always thought they had ample cover there with Cedric Soares filling in for the injured Kieran Tierney and both Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka options in that position.

The plan is to recruit a young player to learn from Tierney this summer, which might point back towards Crystal Palace’s 21-year-old left-back Tyrick Mitchell, who has made 11 Premier League appearances this season after coming through the Palace academy.
