Gossip: Man Utd’s Eriksen offer; Arsenal star set for new deal

With only a dozen days of the transfer window remaining, it seems there could be some movement surrounding Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark playmaker has flopped hard at Inter Milan since his move from Tottenham a year ago and it was widely expected that he would be on the move again this winter. So far, though, nothing.

That could change, however, with Manchester United said to be rivalling Spurs for the 28-year-old. With Arsenal’s need no longer as great and PSG seemingly more interested in Dele Alli, Eriksen’s best hopes of an escape from the San Siro appear to lie with the Red Devils or his former club.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly tempted but Spurs remain wary of taking on a player on considerably higher wages now than he was earning before he walked out of White Hart Lane. So Eriksen is being dangled in front of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – and the United boss may be ready to bite.

According to Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast, United have been offered the opportunity to take Eriksen on loan for the remainder of the season with neither the option or obligation to buy. Eriksen is due around £3.5million in wages over the rest of the campaign and United are said to have offered to take on just over a third of that cost, but Inter want more.

Tottenham may be a little preoccupied by their pursuit of Danny Ings.

Spurs have been linked with the Southampton striker for the last year and, according to The Sun, their interest remains as strong as ever.

Ings is entering the final 18 months of his contract at St Mary’s and, apparently, the idea of joining a club with Champions League prospects appeals to the 29-year-old.

Mourinho would love to add a proven back-up for Harry Kane to his squad with the Spurs boss currently relying on the on-loan Carlos Vinicius to stand in for his leading man.

Ings remains in contract talks with Saints but the sticking point is said to be around the size of any release clause in the terms.

Across north London, Arsenal are also ready to talk terms, with Emile Smith Rowe reported to be in line for a pay rise.

The 20-year-old still has two and a half years remaining on his current deal but the Daily Mail says the club want to improve his deal more in line with his current status as the Gunners’ saviour.

Smith Rowe has helped pull Mikel Arteta out of the mire while raking in £15,000 a week. Any new deal would see his wages bumped up to £40,000, similar to what Bukayo Saka has been paid since he put pen to paper in July.

Barca are playing a risky game with Eric Garcia…

The Catalans have been keen to take the Spain defender since last summer, but Manchester City refused to budge on their asking price, and they aren’t in the mood to offer a huge discount now, even though Garcia is in the final six months of his contract.

Barca’s presidential candidates have refused to agree to sanction a move for the 20-year-old this winter, preferring instead to wait until he becomes a free agent.

But Mundo Deportivo reports that PSG are poised to foil that plan. Apparently, the Parisians are ready to pay City what they want to let Garcia go before the deadline, and with the Euros fast approaching, the defender knows he needs game time to cement his place in the Spain squad.
