Man Utd know Jadon Sancho is probably too expensive. So they’ll just target someone even costlier…
EVER FALLEN IN LOVE?
It comes as no surprise that the Man Utd hierarchy and management is “in love” with Jadon Sancho. Their targets have seemingly during the last few months but the winger has remained the one constant throughout.
But Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has some bad news: Borussia Dortmund still want quite a bit of money to sell him.
It was thought that the global pandemic might bring Sancho’s price down but it seems not. Romano has told The United Stand that “it will be so difficult” to get him because Dortmund feel little need to lower his price too far.
“They will ask for €100m, and they want €100m,” which would equal £87m, less than the British-record fee they spent on Paul Pogba in 2016.
Romano adds that Dortmund are “relaxed” as their thought process is that “in one year we will see if someone has got the money”.
And that is actually the only “problem”. It seems like his Old Trafford contract actually is sorted out. It’s just that pesky actual agreement with the selling club they need to sort now.
THE TRUTH HAVERTZ
In the event they cannot, an alternative has been identified. We still have not seen Kai Havertz play but the boy is attracting Premier League interest like it’s going out of fashion.
As well as Liverpool and now Chelsea, there are ‘admirers within Old Trafford’ when it comes to the Bayer Leverkusen forward. Man Utd have ‘a list of candidates’ who they consider potential solutions to their problematic right side and Havertz is towards the top.
There is also ‘an acceptance’ within Man Utd that previous reports of lavish spending will not come to fruition. The London Evening Standard suggest ‘deals in excess of £60m’ are ‘potentially out of reach’.
That would indeed rule out Sancho, but so too back-up Havertz. Leverkusen insist they want £90m and are not budging.
Man Utd have, of course, also been linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They will be interested to learn that he could be available for just £30m.
The Sun state that Arsenal ‘are looking to sell’ the striker for almost half of the £56m they signed him for. They are ‘desperate’ not to lose him for nothing when his contract expires next summer so are ‘happy’ to get even a knockdown price for him.
With Aubameyang proving difficult to renegotiate a new contract with, Arsenal believe they are better off securing some money for an earlier sale than nothing a year later as he will leave either way. And that’s probably fair enough.
