Gossip: Man Utd set to spend £60m on ‘German super-kid’
Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick has his eye on four German youngsters, while there’s a Mo Salah contract rumour…
RANGNICK WANTS FOUR GERMAN KIDS
Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick is keen to bring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz to Old Trafford, according to reports.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene in the 2019/20 season, becoming the club’s youngest ever league player and making another eight appearances that season. Wirtz has been a regular feature in the first team ever since, making 67 appearances in total over the last three campaigns.
He has been particularly brilliant this term with eight goals and 11 assists in just 20 matches for Leverkusen, who are currently fourth in the Bundesliga. That form has seen some of Europe’s top clubs sit up and take notice with The Sun claiming Man Utd boss Rangnick is ready to ‘step up his efforts to land [the] £60million-rated German super-kid’.
Rangnick ‘has also drawn up a hitlist of crack Bundesliga rookies he wants at Old Trafford — whether he is in charge next season or not.’ Wirtz is described as his ‘No 1 target’ with the Man Utd boss prepared to offer ‘him a chance to star at United’. Rangnick ‘will tell the top brass he is worth the money, with a summer deal likelier than January’ after the Premier League club increased their scouting network in Germany.
A source told The Sun: “The new manager knows practically everybody in German football and there is huge excitement behind the scenes about what it could mean for United in the next few years.
“Germany is a hotbed of talent and he has already flagged up a handful of names. Everyone is hoping Rangnick can help United steal a march on some of our rivals.”
The report adds that the other three youngsters in Germany who Rangnick is keen on are Luca Netz, Eric Martel and Armel Bella-Kotchap.
NEWCASTLE READY TO PINCH CHELSEA, MAN UTD TARGET
Newcastle United want to sign Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara from under the noses of Man Utd and Chelsea, according to reports.
There have been reports that the Magpies have been struggling to attract players, despite their huge wealth, because of their lowly position in the Premier League table.
However, they will be hopeful of landing Kamara with The Sun claiming Newcastle are ‘making a dramatic bid’ for the Frenchman. The Geordies have ‘lined up talks with Kamara’s agents — and hope to agree a deal with him before sorting out a fee with the French giants’.
The 22-year-old, who has also been linked with Man Utd and Chelsea, will only cost around £10m with his contract expiring at the end of the current season. New Newcastle boss Eddie Howe thinks the opportunity to sign Kamara is ‘too good to miss and should be snapped up quickly’.
SALAH CONTRACT SORTED?
Liverpool’s official supporters club in Turkey have claimed that Mo Salah has agreed a new contract to remain at Anfield.
In a tweet on Christmas day, the official supporters insisted that an announcement was imminent despite no word from the club itself.
