POCH AGUERO POACH
As Dele Alli waves frantically from the Tottenham bench in the hopes of catching his former manager’s eye, Mauricio Pochettino is instead interested in making Sergio Aguero his ‘headline transfer’.
That’s according to the Mirror, who claim Poch wants to steal the Argentinian striker away from City in the summer, when he’s available on a free transfer.
With just six months remaining on his current contract, Aguero is free to negotiate with foreign clubs.
The 32-year-old has scored 256 goals for City since joining from Atletico Madrid in July 2011, is the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history and also holds the record for the most hat-tricks scored (12).
But the City legend has been hampered by injuries this season, making just five Premier League appearances, with his last start coming at the end of October.
But Pep Guardiola has continued to maintain he will be patient with the striker.
Speaking a fortnight ago, he said: “We have to be careful. We cannot do what we did in the past, when he comes back [too soon] and then gets injured. I still want to handle the minutes but I saw him well – and I love this guy.”
Guardiola has led his side to the Carabao Cup final in Aguero’s absence, but they have missed him in the league and he could prove to be key to a genuine title challenge.
PSG remain among a select few clubs able to afford what would be sizeable wages, believed to be around £240,000-a-week.
Toby Alderweireld has formed a brilliant partnership with Eric Dier at the back for Spurs this season. That’s probably why PSV are so keen on him, but also why Jose Mourinho will be very reticent to let him go.
According to De Telegraaf, PSV have expressed their interest in the Belgium international and are hoping to tempt him into a deal.
The 31-year-old centre-back is contracted at Spurs until 2023 and signed a new deal just after Mourinho arrived at the club in 2019.
PSV are reportedly in touch with his agent, but it would surely take a very lucrative offer for Spurs to even consider allowing Alderweireld to leave.
MILITAO TO SPURS
If he does, Spurs will need a new centre-back. And according to AS, Mourinho is very keen on Real Madrid’s Eder Militao.
The Brazilian – who Spurs were linked with in the summer – is out of favour at the Bernabeu and has played just three times across La Liga and the Champions League this season.
The report claims Madrid could be open to letting him go, but any suitors must be willing to pay close to the £45million they paid Porto for him in the summer of 2019.
The 22-year-old is primarily a centre-back, but is also comfortable at right-back, with his versatility thought to be key to Mourinho’s interest.
