Arsenal admit Aouar defeat and Solskjaer is on his knees, pleading…
‘Timid’ offers for Houssem Aouar have fallen short of Lyon’s asking price and Atletico Madrid are standing firm on the £45million release clause for Thomas Partey.
Mikel Arteta and Arsenal look now to be turning their attention away from their top two summer transfer targets. But with just a day left to go to get deals over the line, they’re cutting it fine.
And their new reported target is hardly a nailed on certainty either. Multiple sources, including Sky Sports, are suggesting Arteta will attempt to lure Jorginho to the Emirates, on a season-long loan.
Scorer of two penalties in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, Jorginho has started three of the Blues’ four Premier League games this term and was captain for two of them. Many may have deemed the Italian surplus to Frank Lampard’s requirements at Chelsea, but evidence suggests that is clearly not the case.
While Jorginho may be part of Lampard’s short-term plans, Ruben Loftus-Cheek appears to be staring another season on the sidelines in the face.
The midfielder started Chelsea’s first game of the season, struggled, and hasn’t featured in a squad since.
Lampard is spoilt for choice in midfield and the academy product will need a move away if he is to stand any chance of forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England plans.
The Sun claim Chelsea are willing to pay £100,000 of Loftus-Cheek’s £173,000 wage packet to ensure he heads out on loan. Southampton are rumoured to be interested.
Lampard was – just last week – bigging up the 24-year-old’s fitness, like he was a prized hog being paraded around a livestock market.
“Ruben’s fit as a fiddle, he can play week in week out if he needs to, coming off the back of a lot of work. There’s a possibility that Ruben may go out to play games, because I think that would be great for him. If that’s not the right option, he’ll be competitive in this squad as well, because of the quality that he has, and, hopefully, be a big plus for us.”
TELLES WHAT YOU WANT
Manchester United risk losing out on Brazilian defender Alex Telles, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not happy.
According to The Mirror, the Norwegian boss is all but on his knees, ‘pleading’ with the board to stump up the cash.
United have reportedly offered £12million for Telles, who has less than 12 months left on his contract, while Porto are holding out for £18million.
But if this transfer window has taught us anything, it’s that United don’t like to be held over a barrel. They want to pay what they want, rather than what the parent club is asking for.
A bizarre negotiation tactic that has so far seen them buy a central midfielder they don’t really need and a 33-year-old striker no-one wanted instead of the 20-year-old everyone did.
