It’s Groundhog Day at Chelsea and Aston Villa will go big once again…

TUCHEL WANTS STRIKER DUO OUT
Thomas Tuchel wants Chelsea to sign him a ‘world class’ striker this summer. We’ve been here before.

The club spent £97m on Romelu Lukaku last summer, but things haven’t gone according to plan for the Belgium international on his return to Stamford Bridge.

The man billed as the answer to the Blues profligacy has hampered their style and been jettisoned to the bench in the last weeks and months, with Kai Havertz nailing down the No.9 position.

Chelsea also thought they had signed a prolific goalscorer the summer before, with Timo Werner joining for £45m from RB Leipzig, but he too has fallen way short of expectations.

Both strikers have hinted at wanting to leave the club, and Football Insider claim Tuchel is more than willing to cash in on the pair to raise funds for a world class goal-getter.

Paris Saint-Germain are thought to be interested in a move for Lukaku, while Borussia Dortmund are among a number of parties keen on Werner.

VILLA SPLURGE
Aston Villa owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens have spent a whopping £320m on transfers since promotion from the Championship in 2019.

And they’re ready to spend big again to back Steven Gerrard this summer.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim Sawiris and Edens are preparing another ‘huge’ spending spree and are ready to break the club’s transfer record – which currently stands at £33m, on Emiliano Buendia from Norwich – in the process.

Gerrard has said he doesn’t believe the current group is up to the mark and an overhaul is necessary; the owners are willing to back him to the hilt.

The report claims the club are ‘likely to spend over £150m on new signings’, with some high profile exits also expected to free up space in what Gerrard believes to be a lopsided squad.

The former Liverpool midfielder reckons he has too many wide forwards, and while the club hopes to receive significant fees for the sale of some surplus players, Gerrard will be handed ‘massive’ funds in any case.

UNITED’S TORRES RETURN
Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres is back on Manchester United’s radar.

The Spain international, who’s had another excellent season in La Liga, was thought to be on the United shortlist when they instead moved for Raphael Varane.

But the Red Devils are in the market for a centre-back once again, and according to 90min, will make an approach for Torres again this summer.

The report claims the club ‘would not stand in the way’ should any of Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly or Phil Jones want to leave, while there is continued speculation over the future of club captain Harry Maguire, whose form has dipped significantly this season.

Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji is also thought to be on the United radar, while they’ve also shown interest in Wolves’ Max Kilman and out of contract Chelsea rock Antonio Rudiger.
