Tuchel speaks on Azpilicueta

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says he’s reticent to “give Azpilicueta what he wants” as he’s “annoyed” with Barcelona.

The Chelsea club captain has informed Tuchel that he wants to leave for the Nou Camp this summer after the Catalans reportedly agreed personal terms with the full-back.

Should the 32-year-old move to the La Liga side it would end a decade-long stint at Stamford Bridge, in which he’s won every title available to him.

But Tuchel isn’t keen on allowing Azpilicueta to leave for Barcelona as he’s not impressed by the lack of fight they’re showing to secure his signing.

Tuchel said (via Tom Ruddy of The Times): “It is also about us and the comparison of how much we fought for Koulibaly[…] We have a Spanish international player, captain for Chelsea and I see it on the same level but Barcelona does not see it on that level so I’m not sure if I want to give Azpi what he wants.”

Tuchel then explained that Azpilicueta “understands” the situation despite still wanting the move.

Tuchel added (via Fabrizio Romano): “Maybe I’m a little bit annoyed with Barça. But I do my best for Chelsea. I said that to Azpilicueta, he doesn’t like it – but he understands”.

“It is tough for him because the other club [Barça] is permanently on him”.
