Two reasons why Mesut Ozil not facing Everton

Arsenal caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg claims he would not have included Mesut Ozil even if he had been fit to face Everton.

Ozil has been ruled out of the Saturday lunchtime clash with a foot injury but Ljungberg says would never have played.

“Mesut wouldn’t have been in the squad anyway given what happened in the last game,” said Ljungberg, referring to the German’s reaction to be being substituted.

Ljungberg’s final XI had a youthful tinge, with Emile Smith Rowe being joined by Reiss Neilson, Gabriel Martinelli and Bakayo Saka.

A star-studded bench features Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi.

“Of course you always want to win. We know Mikel will be the manger and it’s a bit of a special situation. We will do everything we can to get a result,” said the Swede.

“We have spoken a bit, not too much. He is here watching and wants what is best for the team.”
