Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal claimed the Red Devils’ 1-1 Europa League draw with Club Brugge was “lousy” and worthless”.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side came from behind to secure a draw, but were far from their best against the Belgian side, relying on a brilliant solo effort from Anthony Martial to dig them out of a hole.

Henk Houwaart, who watched the game with Van Gaal in Brugge, claimed the Dutchman was less than impressed by the game.

“Louis thought it was a lousy contest,” he told Het Laatste Nieuws.

“(We) both thought it was a worthless match.

“After no more than three passes, they lost the ball again (and) Louis sighed.

“It was just friendly. Too bad, because Man United were there to be taken, had Club Brugge player with their best team.

“Well, it’s not over yet. We’ll score in England.”

Van Gaal never quite met expectations at United, despite steering them to FA Cup glory in 2016.

And he admitted last year that he was still seething with Red Devils chief Ed Woodward over how his sacking that year was handled.
