Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that he tried to sign Robert Lewandowski when he was in charge at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman was in charge of the Red Devils from 2014 until 2016, eventually being replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Lewandowski meanwhile has been linked with a move away from Bayern, with Real Madrid and PSG reportedly monitoring his situation.
Van Gaal has now revealed that he wanted to take the Poland international to Old Trafford, but Bayern would not part with their star striker.
“I also wanted to train Lewandowski and wanted to bring him to Manchester United,” he told Bild. “He’s currently the best striker in the world.
“The price was not a problem for Manchester United, but Bayern did not want to let him go.”
