We must fight for every trophy – Herrera

Matt Stead

Ander Herrera says it’s the “obligation” of the Manchester United players to beat Reading at the weekend and progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

The Red Devils face Jaap Stam’s side at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime as they look to defend the trophy they won last season under Louis van Gaal.

And the Spaniard expects the players to not only to try and defend their crown in the FA Cup but to challenge for every honour possible.

“We are United, we have to fight for every trophy and at home against Reading we have the obligation to try to win, to score goals and to get to the next round,” Herrera told MUTV.

“They are a strong team and are high in the table so it will be difficult but it’s a big tournament for us and we want to get to the next round.”

United beat League One sides Sheffield United and Shrewsbury and Championship side Derby County on their way to the trophy last season, while they beat Crystal Palace in the final.

Stam, who used to play for the Old Trafford giants, is looking forward to facing his former club in the most famous cup competition in the world.

“We are going to be facing a very strong team, a very good side. It will not be easy but we have nothing to lose,” Stam said ahead of the match.
