Wenger ’90 per cent’ likely not to strengthen in January

Arsene Wenger does not expect to do significant business in the January transfer window, unless Arsenal get the chance to bring in talent better then the “players of quality” they already have.

The Gunners currently sit in fifth place, 19 points off leaders Man City but only a point behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who they host on Friday night.

Most of the attention on the club this season has surrounded the futures of their two best players, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who are out of contract in the summer.

On the pair, all Wenger would say is: “Sanchez and Ozil have a contract until June, that’s it.”

But on his plans for the transfer window next month, the Arsenal boss told beIN Sports that it is unlikely that he strengthen his squad.

“You do not imagine that we will change 10 players in January,” he said. “It’s 90 per cent that it’s the same squad.

“If we can find some additions to strengthen our squad we will do it. But we have a big squad, I think we have players of quality. We need just to stick together and fight as we can until the end of the season.

“I believe that we have to be faithful to the players we have at the moment.”
