Wenger clarifies Ozil situation amid Man United claims

Arsene Wenger has denied that contract talks with Mesut Ozil have broken down.

Arsenal were locked in negotiations with Ozil throughout the summer, with the German’s current deal expiring in 12 months.

German magazine SportBild reported that no talks had been held with the player since February, and that he was expected to leave the Emirates Stadium for free.

The same outlet claimed that Manchester United and Barcelona both hold an interest in the 28-year-old, but Wenger insists that talks will resume soon.

“Yes, of course (I am hopeful),” Wenger said of the chances of discussions continuing.

“The contract talks have slowed down a little bit since August 31, because we need a little breather and to focus on the competition. But we will slowly get back into that.”

Let’s hope Jose Mourinho doesn’t call him a coward this time.
