Arsene Wenger is “convinced” that Arsenal will challenge for the Premier League title without him next season.

Wenger will step down as Arsenal manager this summer after 22 years in charge at the north London club.

The Frenchman is leaving behind a side that will finish sixth in the Premier League table, eliminated in the Europa League semi-finals by Atletico Madrid.

But Wenger remains “convinced” that this set of players will be “one of the contenders” for Manchester City’s crown next season.

“The quality is there, the spirit is exceptional. If the team has one or two good away results next season they will play for the Premier League.

“I’m convinced because there is something special in that team that will come out next season.

“I’m convinced Arsenal will be one of the contenders next year.”
