Wenger delivers update on Cazorla and Wilshere

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not expect to see Santi Cazorla back in action until after Christmas.

The Spanish midfielder has not played since last October and a return is still a long way off, with Wenger saying on Thursday:

“He’s having his first run today so that’s positive.

“The flexibility of his ankle is good, his mobility is good, he is getting back to full fitness without many set-backs but overall it’s difficult to set a time.

“Not before Christmas – that’s why I didn’t involve him in the Europa League – but I hope after Christmas he will be available.”

One player who could feature in the Europa League next week is Jack Wilshere, who has not even been on the bench for a Premier League game this season.

He has played two Under-23 games – getting sent off against Manchester City last month.

“Wilshere is getting stronger every day,” said Wenger.

“I haven’t decided whether to include him in the squad. We still need some fitness work but he’s in a positive trend.”
