Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal will keep Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, despite the player being linked with Chelsea.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has entered the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract, with little sign of an extension in the offing.
The 24-year-old emerged as a viable candidate as a first-choice wing-back in the latter stage of last season, and also offers versatility in central midfield and as a winger going forward.
Wenger is keen to keep the player, but Chelsea are thought to be heavily interested in a £35m move.
“Yes, he is staying here,” the Frenchman said on Wednesday. “Why? Personally, because I rate him highly and he’s one of the players who is on his way up.
“In the last year, he has made huge progress and personally I want him to stay here for a long time.
“I’m convinced he will be the English player that everybody will look at in the next two years at the end of the season.”
