Wenger explains why Arsenal don’t want Dimitri Payet

Arsene Wenger doubts that Arsenal will conduct much transfer business in this January’s window.

The Gunners have signed just one player this winter, with left-back Cohen Bramall arriving from Hednesford Town.

However, the £40,000 signing has gone into the club’s development squad, with no additions expected to Wenger’s first team.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for West Ham’s wantaway star Dimitri Payet, but Wenger insists the club are not in for the Frenchman.

“I expect it to be a very quiet period,” he said. “We are very strong. We have many, many players who can come in.

“I rate Payet but I don’t need Payet because we have so many creative players.

“We have many players who can play in this position.”
