Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits it has been a struggle to find the right quality of players in this summer’s transfer market.
With less than three weeks to go in the transfer window, Wenger has only managed to recruit Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Tukama Asano this summer.
Out of those three signings, only Xhaka is likely to feature on a regular basis and Gunners fans are starting to worry that the club might not bring in the necessary reinforcements required for a title challenge.
The north London club have been focused on landing a striker all summer but will now be forced into making a defender their top priority after injuries for Per Mertesacker and Gabriel left them facing a defensive crisis.
“We want to spend the money when we have it,” said Wenger.
“What is very difficult today is to find the quality of the players who are available and if you look well despite all the money that is available in England there is very little movement since the start of the transfer market.
“We are in the transfer market and on one side we are focused and concentrated on the players we have to get them in a fantastic shape. On the other hand, of course we are looking outside to strengthen.”
