Wenger happy to rotate his Arsenal squad every week

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger stood by his decision to rotate his side after seeing them progress to the last-32 of the Europa League.

Wenger made a number of changes during the 0-0 draw with Red Star Belgrade and despite the surprise result, the Gunners have still qualified for the next round.

The point for the visitors also gives them hope of making it out of the group stage and the Arsenal manager was aware of the threat they posed.

“They played at a high pace and are always dangerous on the break. We lacked a bit of quality in the final ball to find the right space. Overall, I would say it is a fair 0-0.”

After the game, Wenger was also confident that he was right to make a number of squad changes.

“Look we made 10 points in four games. Overall I believe it is good if I can get those. You can see tonight was intense. We want to play in every competition. I will continue with rotation.”

The game also saw Jack Wilshere start for the Gunners and Wenger believes these games are the one’s that can help his midfielder return to good form.

When asked about Sunday’s opponents Manchester City, Wenger was quick to discuss the form his side are on at the moment.

“At the moment, we have to prepare with clarity and focus. What is at stake for us is the three points. We want to win the game.

“When we go there we want to defend well but you cannot only be focussed on defending. The best way to defend sometimes is to attack.” He added.

The Frenchman was asked about the possibility of Pep Guardiola’s team doing what Arsenal did and going the whole season unbeaten.

“It is very early. We are only 10 games in and have 28 to go. When you play football, you have to accept risks.”
