Wenger issues injury update on Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsene Wenger is hopeful that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be fit to face Chelsea on Saturday.

Wenger suffered a humiliating evening on the pitch as Arsenal lost 2-1 at home to Watford, but also has a midfield crisis ahead of the weekend.

Granit Xhaka is suspended, Mohamed Elneny still at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt and Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla are injured.

That leaves Francis Coquelin as the only fit central midfielder, which is a situation nobody can delight in.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who played in central midfield to great success against Southampton in the FA Cup, also got a knock against Watford.

However, Wenger doesn’t sound too concerned by it.

“He got a kick on his knee,” Wenger said after the game

“No, I don’t think so [it will cause him to miss Chelsea].

“I think he should be alright.”

You better bloody hope so, Arsene.
