Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Alex Iwobi will be fined if The Sun’s claims about his late-night antics are true.
The midfielder was pictured ‘at a wild drug-fuelled house party’ at 2.37am on Saturday morning before playing (badly) against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Although we could question whether that really is a front-page story in a national newspaper, it was a clear error of judgement from Iwobi.
Wenger was quizzed on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday night’s unmissable clash with Chelsea and said: “If that is true he will be fined.
“It’s impossible to go out 48 hours before the game. It’s unacceptable. I will have to see him and see if that is right or not.
“If he was at a birthday party, how long has he stayed? That is very important. After that I will decide what happens.
“If your neighbour takes drugs, what can you do about it? You are responsible for your behaviour.
“You must have played football, you want to prepare 100% but sometimes it is not a guarantee that you will be at your best.
“But that is what is requested from a top professional.”
