Arsene Wenger has weighed in to the debate over diving following Mauricio Pochettino’s comments about ‘tricking the opponent’.
Pochettino was discussing the fall-out from Dele Alli’s caution at Liverpool on Sunday for diving in an attempt to win a penalty.
The Tottenham boss suggested diving was a ‘minimal issue’ and suggested it may be seen as part and parcel of trying to outsmart the opposition.
Ahead of the north London derby on Saturday, however, Wenger disagreed and insisted that the game needs to stamp out simulation.
“I am convinced he wanted to see tricking your opponent is to be clever,” said Wenger. “Was it an apology for diving? I’m not sure.
“In my case, no. We want to get diving out of the game.
“It used to be the foreigners but I must say the English players have learnt very quickly and are maybe the masters now.”
