Timo Werner has insisted that Chelsea are not a selfish side after their convincing 3-0 victory over Rennes in the Champions League.

Frank Lampard’s side enjoyed a comfortable night in the Champions League against Rennes. They were two goals ahead at the break thanks to two penalties from Werner.

Dalbert was sent off for Rennes after the second penalty was given, further asserted Chelsea’s dominance on the game. They added to their lead in the second half via Tammy Abraham, as it remained 3-0 as the final whistle was blown.

Werner has taken over from Jorginho as Chelsea’s penalty taker. The Italian missed a spot-kick for the Blues against Krasnador earlier in the competition.

Speaking after the game with BT Sport, as cited by BBC Sport, Werner suggested that Chelsea are a close-knit group and that Jorginho was fine with Werner taking over penalty duty:

“We had a very good game today. The two penalties right. We got with 2-0 at half time, very good. The red card. Also good for me is we had one more player in the pitch and could control it from behind.

“Before the game the manager said when there is a penalty I should take it. Two today is crazy, not all days. I take it and good goals for a striker but hopefully I can go on like this.

“I am happy, I am happy Jorginho is cool with it. It is another point that speaks for our team, we are not selfish. We all go in one direction which is good.

“Now we want to win the group.”
