West Ham United are in ‘negotiations’ to sign Lille striker Jonathan David in January, according to reports.

David joined the French outfit from Gent in August 2020, helping Les Dogues win the Ligue 1 title in his maiden season.

During their title-winning campaign, David scored 13 league goals whilst playing in 37 out of 38 Ligue 1 matches.

Liverpool fans too blinkered to call out Tory-esque Klopp

He has found the back of the net 15 times already this term, helping Lille reach the last 16 of the Champions League after netting three times in their group.

The 21-year-old has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, with L’Equipe stating that the Reds have been tracking the striker ‘for a while’.

However, Fichajes (via Shoot) claim West Ham are in discussions with Lille over signing the Canada international in the winter transfer window.

The London club’s only out-and-out striker is Michail Antonio, who is without a goal in his last 13 appearances.

David would apparently cost the Hammers €50million (£42.7m) if they want to sign him in January, with the report claiming negotiations are underway.

The Irons are currently fourth in the Premier League table, four points behind Arsenal in fourth, but do have a game in hand over the Gunners.

Champions League qualification is a big target for manager David Moyes, but he knows he will need to bolster his attacking options this month if West Ham are to finish inside the top four, or win the Europa League.

Elsewhere, Chris Sutton has urged Ben Brereton Diaz to stay at Blackburn Rovers amidst reported interest from the Premier League.

Brereton Diaz has been in superb form this season having scored 19 times in 23 Championship encounters. Rovers are currently third in the league table.

“It’s an interesting one because if you are Breraton Diaz, at this moment in time,” said Sutton (via HITC). “He must be loving his football at Blackburn.

“Blackburn have a chance of getting back into the Premier League and clubs are clearly going to be in for him.

“If I was Brereton Diaz, and the club has been good to him, and he has been good for the club. Blackburn Rovers are in a great position, they have brilliant momentum. I would stay and see it through.”
