West Ham ‘increasingly frustrated’ with Arsenal as reasons for delaying £105m Rice transfer explained

Declan Rice, West Ham, January 2023

West Ham are reportedly becoming “increasingly frustrated” with Arsenal delaying the transfer of Declan Rice, which is hindering their own transfer business.

Rice was a target for the Gunners months before the summer transfer window opened. It looked almost certain for some time that the Emirates was where he’d end up.

With that being said, it’s somewhat surprising the deal hasn’t officially gone through yet. Indeed, it’s been over a week since multiple respected sources confirmed there was an agreement in place between Arsenal and West Ham for the midfielder.

Yet since then, there’s been little evidence to suggest when the official announcement will be made by Arsenal. That’s apparently led to discontent from the Hammers, who aren’t happy about how long the process is taking, according to Sky Sports.

“West Ham are becoming increasingly frustrated about the delay with the deal to sell Declan Rice to Arsenal,” they said.

“The £105million deal has been agreed – that was eight days ago – but so far this deal has not been signed and West Ham are still waiting to sign the contract.”

The reasons for the delay apparently stem directly from Arsenal, which is why West Ham are becoming frustrated.

“The hold up is being caused by delays with paperwork being drawn up by Arsenal’s lawyers. As far as West Ham are aware, Rice has passed his Arsenal medical, however, still no deal done,” Sky Sports added.

“He’s been training regularly on holiday in Portugal but as things stand still not quite an Arsenal player and West Ham, it would seem, getting frustrated with the delays.”

The situation is not an easy one for West Ham. They’ve got a jackpot sum coming to them, and are unaware when they’ll be able to use it.

That will surely be hindering any progress they’re looking to make in the transfer market, both in replacing Rice and adding other players.

“They of course will have their own transfer plans which they will be relying on some of the finances raised from the sale of Rice to push ahead with those,” Sky Sports said.

Of course, they’re hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon, so that they’re able to start the recruiting process. There’s no reason to suggest Arsenal won’t pen the contract to sign Rice, but for West Ham, it’s less than ideal that it’s taking so long.
