West Ham to buy Benrahma before sealing Lingard loan

West Ham are ready to make Said Benrahama’s deal permanent so they can push forward their loan move for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.

Lingard was a regular first-teamer for Man United between 2015 and 2020. In that time he made over 130 Premier League appearances.

But he has fallen down the pecking order this season and he is yet to make a single league appearance. He has only played three times this term, which all came in cup competitions.

Lingard has been linked with a move away from Man United this month. A number of Premier League clubs have been interested, which includes Burnley and Sheffield United.

The Guardian have reported that West Ham are leading the race to sign Lingard, with former Red Devils boss David Moyes eager to reunite with the midfielder.

There is a stumbling block preventing this deal happening, though. Premier League clubs are only allowed to have two domestic loan players in their squad.

West Ham currently have Benrahma and Craig Dawson in their league squad, who are on loan from Brentford and Watford respectively.

The report adds that Moyes is keen to secure the permanent signing of Benrahma. This would allow his side to push ahead with a loan move for Lingard.

The forward joined the Hammers on an initial loan deal in the summer. This included a loan fee of around £5m. They have agreed to sign him permanently at the end of the season for an extra £20m plus £5m more in add-ons.
