Wolves have made an approach to sign the AC Milan youngster Rafael Leao as a replacement for Diogo Jota, according to reports in Italy.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were dealt with the huge blow of losing Jota to Liverpool this summer. The Portuguese international enjoyed three great years with the West Midlands outfit.

Jota scored 44 times from 131 appearances in all competitions for Wolves, which included 16 in his last season at the Molineux.

The attacker joined Liverpool in a deal worth around £41m, and he has immediately hit the ground running for his new club. He has scored seven goals from just 10 appearances.

Wolves were not able to bring in a replacement for Jota during the summer, who had been such a key player for them in recent years.

According to Italian outlet, Calciomercato, Wolves approached AC Milan to sign Leao during the summer.

The forward joined Milan from Lille ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. He signed a five-year deal with the Italian outfit and he is currently starting his second year with them.

The report adds that Milan turned down the deal at the time, as they feel they have a ‘diamond’ on their hands.

Leao has made a strong start to the new season. He has two goals and three assists from just five Serie A appearances so far this campaign.
