Wolves are planning a surprise move for Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo, according to reports in Spain.

The full-back came through the ranks with Portuguese side Benfica. He made his senior debut in August 2015 before becoming a regular in the first-team.

His impressive form did not go unnoticed for long as after two seasons playing for Benfica, Barcelona approached to sign him.

Semedo signed on the dotted line with the Spanish giants in July 2017 for €30.5m plus add-ons.

The Portugal international found his way into the starting XI right away. The 26-year-old has made 124 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona in his three years at the club.

The 2019-20 season was a disappointing one for Barcelona. But Semedo was consistently in the side, as he made over 40 appearances domestically and in Europe.

Since making his debut for the Portuguese national side in 2015, Semedo has been capped 13 times.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deporitvo are now reporting that Wolves are hoping to sign Semedo this summer.

The report adds that Barcelona are only willing to listen to offers for Semedo that are in the region of €40m.

Wolves lost their first-choice right-back, Matt Doherty, to rivals Tottenham earlier in the window. Spurs paid around £15m for the Irishman, but Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are yet to replace him.

Adama Traore has filled in at right wing-back for the start of the season. Traore is predominantly an out and out winger, so is playing out of position at wing-back.

Wolves will be keen to get a new wing-back into the club to fill the huge void that is left by Doherty.

They have already made three signings this summer. They smashed their transfer record to sign 18-year-old Portuguese forward Fábio Silva for around £36m.

Lyon left-back Marçal has also signed for just short of £2m, and 20-year-old Porto midfielder Vitinha has moved to the Molineux on loan.
