Ian Wright has picked out Arsenal defender Kieren Tierney as a player who could captain the club in the future.

The Scotsman came through the ranks with Celtic. He gained some valuable experience at domestic and European level for them.

Tierney made over 100 appearances between 2015 and 2019. In that time he progressed to become one of the most promising young Scottish players around today.

He signed for Arsenal ahead of the 2019/20 season for around £25m. He missed the start of the season through injury, but he impressed for Mikel Arteta’s side when he returned to full fitness.

Tierney made 24 appearances for Arsenal during his debut season. He was also part of the side that beat Chelsea in the FA Cup Final.

Nicolas Pepe was sent off for Arsenal last time out against Leeds for an apparent headbutt on Ezgjan Alioski.

After the game, Tierney confronted Alioski to berate him for his actions leading up to the sending off.

Speaking in his Wrighty’s House Podcast, Wright was full of praise for Tierney:

“Kieran Tierney in the way he reacted at the end of that game, he’s a future captain for our club.

“Yes we know what Pepe did was silly and he will very much regret that but Tierney could not deal with the fact that a professional done that to another professional player, dived.

“Seeing somebody else talking to him, that really riled Kieran Tierney up, he’s not having that.

“You look at Tierney, it’s the attitude and the mentality that Arsenal need right now, not enough around him maybe, in his eyes, have got that.

“That’s why he went and approached Alioski to say to him you’re out of order.”

Liverpool were meant to run out of steam. David Moyes wasn’t supposed to still be in a job. Oops.
