Xabi Alonso open to considering Liverpool ‘for sure’ amid Arne Slot succession rumours
Xabi Alonso has stated there is something to consider in the Premier League or at Liverpool “for sure” amid rumours that he’s the club’s favourite to take over from endangered boss Arne Slot.
Alonso’s been in charge at Real Madrid since the beginning of the season. As always, they are competing up towards the top of La Liga, second to Barcelona by four points.
But he’s rubbed some players up the wrong way, leading to reports that some aren’t happy with him. Some even suggest they’ve got a big name lined up to replace Alonso – Jurgen Klopp.
Alonso himself could, potentially, be in line for another job anyway, as with Liverpool boss Slot in danger, he’s said to be the favourite option. Alonso was linked heavily prior to Slot taking over, but he decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Real.
A fresh report details a scare to Slot, with it said if Alonso leaves Real, Liverpool will ‘instantly approach’ the manager.
Alonso himself has suggested he’s open to a move to the Premier League, and Anfield in general, but not yet.
He said in a press conference covered by AS: “For sure, it’s something to consider with the English clubs, with my former club. But for now, this is the place that I want to be, and in the future, you never know what can happen.”
On the fallout between Slot and Mohamed Salah, which saw the Liverpool icon hit out at the club for “throwing him under the bus” and has led to him not travelling to face Inter Milan on Tuesday, Alonso feels there’s more to the story.
He said: “Those are decisions they have made at Liverpool. No doubt we’re missing a lot of details. So it’s not for me to give an opinion on that.”

Alonso himself was part of a fallout earlier in the season, with Vinicius Junior going nuclear and saying he was leaving Real after being subbed off against Barcelona.
An apology was issued by Vinicius and he has returned to the team. Alonso has suggested he would not have approached that situation differently, which suggests he’d have treated Salah in the same way as Slot and Liverpool have.
Suggestions currently are that Salah will be sold by the Reds if his valuation is met.
