Yerry Mina out; Marco Silva has defensive dilemma

Everton manager Marco Silva has to decide between Mason Holgate and Kurt Zouma for a defensive place against Southampton.

New signing Yerry Mina has been ruled out with a minor foot injury so Silva is left with just two options to replace the suspended Phil Jagielka.

Discussing his new signings, Silva said: “They are doing what is normal. Some of them I know very well but we have to give them time to settle in our model. After that I will take my decisions.

“Yerry Mina is not available tomorrow. Zouma is if I take the decision. At this moment it is between him and Mason.

“Mina is recovering from a small problem in his foot. I hope next week I can update you on the situation.”

Silva confirmed that new signing Bernard could be fit, while Andre Gomes is some weeks away.

“He had an injury in his hamstring during the US tour with Barcelona. He will be back with the team in a few weeks training.

“You are talking about weeks. You never know how a muscle injury reacts but he is recovering well and could start training with us next week and see how he reacts.”

Silva has left the door open for former record signing Yannick Bolasie and Mo Besic to leave as the club confirmed that full-back Cuco Martina has joined Stoke on loan.
