Sweepstakes casinos online 101 - what even are these sites?
The main thing to remember about these sites is that they are NOT real money casino sites. There’s a range of major differences. Sweepstakes casinos are gaming sites accessible across a wide range of states, to US residents over 18 or 21 (depending on what a specific state says about age restrictions). Instead of real money gameplay, these platforms use virtual currencies, similar to what a player might use in a demo version of a game.
They offer casino-style gaming
The main purpose of a sweepstakes casino is to provide casino-style games that customers should be able to play for free. As explained below, the difference is WHAT is used to play the games (virtual coins, not dollars). The best sweepstakes casinos offer video slots, table games, scratchcards, fishing arcade games, live dealer games, bingo, poker, and more - everything anyone could ever want for a casino-style gaming experience.
Players use virtual currencies instead of money
There’s NO real money gaming at these sites. If a sweepstakes casino allows customers to play games with their USD, for instance, then it’s simply a fake site pretending to be a legit sweepstakes casino. Only licensed
real money casinos in the US
(like BetMGM and DraftKings) can offer traditional casino gambling, and those are only available in a select few states.
Instead of good old dollars, sweepstakes casinos typically have two virtual currencies. These function exactly the same on any sweepstakes casino, although the names may differ on sites that might want to be a bit unique about it.
There’s usually two virtual currencies, as they have two different functions:
Virtual Currency
What it does
Gold Coins (GC)
Customers can play games in GC mode to get more GC if they win. Gold Coins have no other purpose or function. They are a one-trick pony.
Sweeps Coins (SC)
Customers can also switch to SC mode and have the chance of getting SC winnings. Sweeps Coins are usually redeemable for prizes, but the player must meet specific eligibility requirements before being able to make an SC redemption request.
So, Gold Coins are just for fun, and while Sweeps Coins are also for fun, they have a little bit of extra spice added in the form of potential SC redemptions. The prizes are usually cash or gift cards and sometimes even crypto. There’s often the following requirements to make an SC redemption request:
A fully verified ID (KYC checks needed).
A minimum SC balance (typically 100).
To have played through the bonus SC a minimum number of times (usually 1x).
These sites abide by sweepstakes rules
The difference with real money sites should now be clear, and these differences are why sweepstakes casinos online do not require a license to operate. Instead, they have to comply with US sweepstakes regulations for the states they offer their services in, this includes:
Not allowing real money deposits.
Not allowing real money gaming.
Complying with the no purchase necessary requirement.
On top of that, there’s other things expected from top sweepstakes casinos such as transparency for their operations, responsive customer support, security measures to protect their customers, and features to ensure that only legitimate players are accessing their sites.
Pros and cons of sweepstakes casinos
The downsides of sweepstakes casinos can’t be ignored and they are by no means perfect. While the games are awesome, they can be played for free, and there’s loads of promos flying around, there’s some drawbacks to consider.
For instance, not many sweepstake casinos have downloadable mobile apps. That might be a bummer on first read, but these sites usually have mobile-friendly browsers so that’s not as much of a dealbreaker as some people might think. Lastly, the minimum SC redemption requirement is often 100 played through SC which takes a while to accumulate.
Pros
+Thousands of fun casino-style games.
+Free-play gaming via GC and SC.
+SC redemptions can be made.
+Loads of GC and SC promos.
Cons
−High minimum SC redemption requirement.
6 features the best sweepstakes casinos MUST have
That’s the basics covered. But what makes a GREAT sweepstakes casino? What makes the top contenders stand above the rest? Well, it’s not just one thing, but a combination of features such as security, support, gaming, and promotions.
🔒 Regulatory compliance
Whether a site is GOOD or BAD, it MUST follow the US sweepstakes regulations discussed above. This means no real money gaming or deposits. It also means the no purchase necessary requirement must be followed, and the site has to give out virtual currencies for free. The best sweepstakes casinos are also not shy in sharing their parent company operation, and info about their operations. Think about it: if they’re transparent with the details, they’re not hiding anything in this regard.
🔐 Security and transparency
Customers need to be safe when gaming, and when doing things like making optional GC package purchases. This is why security is important, despite being pretty boring! Sites should have industry-standard features like SSL encryption, and prevent unauthorized access by using geoblocking. They must also have a range of verification checks, including a full KYC check to make sure only legit US players are using their services.
💬 Customer support availability
Sweepstakes casinos are pretty easy to use and don’t take much brain power, BUT, they aren’t infallible, and customers might get stuck. In these instances, there should be multiple different support options that give quick response times. A live chat is the best option - it’s quick, direct, and easy-to-use, and the best chats give response times within 4-5 minutes max.
Email support is also an option, but this is usually a last resort due to the pretty slow response times that can take up to 24 hours. Those who don’t want to interact with other humans (relatable!) will want to be able to browse a help center or something similar to get the help they need on their own.
📱 Desktop and mobile usability
These sites need to be accessible to everyone - the old boomers still using their desktop computers, and the avid mobile gamers who only ever use their smartphones. This means a high-quality and easy-to-use desktop website, but also mobile accessibility. The desktop website should have a clear navigation that allows customers to reach everything within a few clicks, plus an organized game library with loads of search filters.
For mobile gaming, downloadable apps are preferable, but seen as hardly any sweepstakes casinos seem to do this, there must at least be a mobile-responsive version of the site. What does this mean? It means the site will shrink and adjust its layout to fit properly on a smaller smartphone screen.
🎮 The game collection
GAMING! Arguably, this is the whole point of sweepstakes casinos. This is why customers come to sweepstakes casinos, so there has to be plenty of entertainment to be had. There’s more info about the games at online sweepstakes casinos below, but there’s commonly slots, table games, live dealer games, and arcade games. The site should offer low minimum GC and SC play limits, plus provide important information like the game RTP and volatility.
🎉 Virtual currency promos and gamification features
The top-rated sweepstakes casinos have no problem giving out Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins via a big range of promotions and gamification features. The most common types of promos include:
The welcome bonus should ideally have a no purchase element as well which is a lump sum of virtual currencies, plus an optional discounted GC package. VIP programs and loyalty schemes are also especially important as they reward customers if they stick with a brand and potentially get recurring perks because of their continued gameplay. Most sweepstakes casinos also have a social media presence and will have regular contests and giveaways on sites like Instagram, Facebook, and X.
Playing at top sweepstakes casinos - what to expect
The games at sweepstakes casinos are what make them so much fun. Oftentimes, sweepstakes casinos can offer far more gaming variety, and it’s common for sites to offer 1,000+ titles, with some operators having even more. Some sites do produce their own games, but it’s more common for sites to work with top gaming developers such as:
Hacksaw, Nolimit City, Massive Studios, Twist Gaming, Titan Gaming, ICONIC21, Live88, Evolution, Shady Lady, AvatarUX, Backseat Gaming, Penguin King, Slotmill, BGaming, Peter & Sons, Popiplay, Bullshark Games, Playson, Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming, Fantasma Games, G.Games, NetEnt, Hacksaw OpenRGS, Rogue, Just Slots, One Touch, Expanse Studios, Booming Games, Onlyplay, Mancala Gaming, Platipus, Barbara Bang, Gaming Corps, 3 Oaks Gaming.
This gives customers the peace of mind to know that they aren’t getting ripped off as these producers are all licensed and have their RNG (Random Number Generator) systems tested for fairness.
In terms of variety, there’s typically the following genres:
Video Slots.
Single player table games.
Scratchcards.
Live table games.
Live game shows.
Bingo.
Poker.
Fishing arcade games.
Arcade games.
There’s often hundreds and thousands of slots, and these will make up the majority of the game libraries, but sweepstakes casinos online will also throw in other genres, with table games and arcade games being especially popular. To give players an idea of what’s available, there’s some top picks from the different genres in the below table:

8 of the best sweepstakes casinos online that US customers go wild for
There’s good sweepstakes casinos, and then there’s THE BEST. Some sites are just clearly head and shoulders above the rest, whether it’s the games, promos, usability, or accessibility. It can be a massive pain trying to search through the hundreds of different sites though, and sifting out the contenders from the rubbish.
That’s where this guide comes in though with the below
list of social casinos. These are tried and tested - they’ve got the battle scars and reign triumphant as the victors. They are the most popular sweepstakes casinos available, with all the features discussed above, and more. Anyone can click on the relevant banners after reading the reviews of these brands to get signed up at them.

25,000 Gold Coins and 25 Stake Cash with the exclusive code FOOTY365
McLuck is one of THE original US sweepstakes casinos and even today it still has one of the best setups around. The promos are a great sticking point, and it’s a fantastic
free Sweeps Coins sweepstakes casino
due to the 7,500 GC and 2.5 SC welcome bonus, the progressive daily login bonus, and the McLuck loyalty club. Players can also get their friends involved too, and potentially get a massive referral bonus of 200,000GC and 100 SC for their first 10 referrals!
This sweepstakes casino is one of the few sites that offers branded live dealer games as well. These are essentially games created by ICONIC21, that use special McLuck-themed studios and game interfaces. They look incredible and offer a much more immersive experience compared to the sometimes general studio setups of other games. There’s live blackjack, baccarat, and roulette, plus some fun game shows like Buffalo Blitz Live, Spin a Win, and Adventures Beyond Wonderland from Playtech.
Over the years, McLuck has also managed to keep itself fresh and give gamers new things to interact with, such as its progressive jackpot feature, and the constant trickle of video slots it adds. At the time of writing this guide, some new picks included Sacred Buffalo from Booming Games, Chicken Shot from BGaming, and 3 Power Bears from Avatar UX.
Promos have been a central theme of this review, and one site that does a top job of lavishing customers with GC and SC is Stake.us. First up, if players use the exclusive promo code FOOTY365, and register a new account, they get an insane signup bonus of 25,000 Gold Coins and 25 Stake Cash. This is THE best no purchase bonus available and it might never be beaten. Can’t find another site with a welcome bonus of 25 SC even if every site gets double-checked.
Stake.us doesn’t slack off after the welcome bonus, oh no. It’s also got an insane 10,000 GC and 1 SC login bonus for sweepstakes casino players, a massive 5 SC mail-in bonus, and one of the best VIP programs around. It’s also a great idea to look out for the iconic Stake.us SC bonus drops which happen via the community chat, plus X and Telegram.
The promos might be absurd here, but Stake.us knows a thing or two about gaming also. It has its own development team that has created the well-known Originals games. New players here MUST try out top titles like Crash, Dice, Mines, and Limbo. Not only that, but Stake.us has its own multiplayer poker setup too where poker nerds can compete against each other in intense games for GC or SC pots.

MegaBonanza has been around forever and it remains one of the best picks. It's got everything players expect from a sweepstakes casino, and despite being launched several years ago, it still stays relevant and one of the top dogs. With so many sites getting launched day in and day out, continuing to be relevant in the scene is a cool achievement. Players can get stuck straight in with the easy-to-use website design, the highly organized game library, and the simple account management - it’s promo setup.
Speaking of the games, this is THE site to try for those who love classic 3-reel slots, and retro games that feel like fruit machines from eras past. For instance, they have a mega 3 Oaks Gaming and Playson slot collection, and most of the games have the legendary Hold and Win mechanic. Yes, some of the games do have an RTP that’s slightly lower than the 96.00% average, BUT, this is made up for with the smooth graphics, epic sound effects and music, and superb bonus rounds. Some top picks include Lion Gems Hold and Win, Power Crown Hold and Win, and Fortune Globe Hold and Win.
MegaBonanza does an epic job when it comes to bonuses too. Although it doesn’t really use
sweepstakes casino promo codes, it’s got a cracking 7,500 GC and 2.5 SC welcome bonus, a consistent 1,500 GC and 0.20 SC daily login bonus, and one of the top optional discounted GC packages at $9.99 for 50,000 Gold Coins, and 25 free bonus SC after the GC purchase.
Age 21+. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited by law. Not available in AL, CA, CT, DE, ID, IN, KY, LA, ME, MD, MI, MT, NV, NJ, NY, TN, WA and WV. Additional T&Cs apply.
Those who are prepared to spend a few minutes out of their day can potentially benefit from one of the better progressive daily login bonuses available at sweepstakes casinos online, and it’s available at CrownCoins. This can go as hush as 40,000 GC and 1 SC, BUT, here’s the kicker - it also increases depending on the customer’s VIP level which means it can get pretty tasty for loyal players.
CrownCoins Casino is also packed with the other typical sweepstakes casino features - a mail-in bonus, 100,000 GC and 2 SC welcome bonus, referral bonus of up to 400,000 GC and 20 SC, and a decent array of social media contests and giveaways.
Being one of the more established brands, CrownCoins is pretty reputable, and part of that is due to the reliable and diverse game library it offers. Players can start with a few slots from developers like Relax Gaming and Hacksaw, OR turn their attention to legendary retro slots from none other than Microgaming. Considered one of the original creators of video slots, their collection at CrownCoins includes all-time greats like Immortal Romance and Avalon II.
LoneStar prefers to give customers a brilliant slot variety, and it’s got pretty much every game mechanic imaginable, like cascading reels, Bonus Buy features, Megaways, and jackpot slots. However, many of these are available on retro games, and if a player wants a more modern and unique slot experience, it’s best to check out the Nolimit City slot collection at LoneStar. This developer is known for its slots with mature themes - the graphical style is grungy and looks awesome, and there’s nothing off limits in these crazy games!
So players can enjoy these games for free, LoneStar Casino does an OK job of dishing out the promos. There’s a 100,000 GC and 2.5 SC welcome bonus for new players when signing up using our links, and also a 150% bonus on their first optional GC package. That’s just the welcome bonus though! After that, users can get 5,000 GC and 0.30 SC every day for the daily login bonus, plus one of the better referral bonuses of up to 200,000 GC and 70 SC per referee.
Players don’t need to make GC purchases at SpinQuest to have fun, but if they want to, it’s advisable to start with the incredible discounted new customer package they offer. This is only $10.00, and players get 300,000 Gold Coins, and after the GC purchase is completed, they will also get 30 bonus SC - that’s pretty much a 200% bonus and one of the best GC packages around. It also helps that SpinQuests starts players off with a pretty hefty 100,000 GC and 2 SC no purchase welcome bonus.
For those who are active on social media and enjoy streamer content, SpinQuest has done a really good job of building its brand presence and making engaging content on sites like YouTube and X, and it does often have giveaways and contests too.
When it comes to GAMING, this sweepstakes casino features live dealer games from both ICONIC21 and Evolution, which means customers can enjoy the legendary Gravity series of games like Gravity Blackjack, but also some of the best live game shows of all time like Crazy Time, Monopoly Live, and Dream Catcher.
One of the
latest sweepstakes casinos
to launch is Cider Casino and it gives customers a pretty sweet deal with its funky combination of slots and fishing games, plus its reliable range of promotions. New customers will get 20,000 GC and 0.30 SC as soon as they sign up, but there’s also a neat progressive daily login bonus that increases each time they login on consecutive days, up to a 7-day streak.
Slots make up a big portion of the game library here, and there’s some heavy hitting producers including Hacksaw Gaming and Betsoft. The most mental entertainment comes from the fishing arcade games from KA Gaming though. With titles like Fortune King Jackpot and KA Fish Hunter, players get to blast away with a range of different weapons, trying to blow up animated moving targets - what could be more fun?
Let’s not forget about the fact that this US sweepstakes casino also has TWO downloadable mobile apps. There’s both Android and iOS versions which both work amazingly. In most ways, they make up for the somewhat simple and lacking design of the desktop site, and give players one of the best mobile sweepstakes casino experiences possible.
Try sweepstakes casinos online for no-stress gaming entertainment
If anyone is looking for a hassle-free, no-stress gaming session with some epic casino-style games, US sweepstakes casinos online are a great option. It’s all about the fun and having a blast with the virtual currencies, and this can be refreshing. Of course, for those who are interested, there is the potential to redeem Sweeps Coins for prizes, which can add an additional layer of excitement and intrigue to the sites, although it’s not a necessity.
Let’s finish with a quick recap on how the hell these sites work:
They offer casino-style games to play for free.
Players use virtual currencies like GC and SC.
SC can potentially be redeemed for prizes, such as cash or gift cards.
That’s pretty much it in a nutshell. Of course, each individual site has their own features, and that’s part of the beauty of exploring sweepstakes casinos - there’s always something new to find.
