Manchester United v Aston Villa: Premier League preview

Following their dramatic comeback win against Roma in the Champions League, Manchester United now host Aston Villa in the Premier League.

United came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against the Serie A side, but they are on a seven-game winless run in the Premier League and currently sit in the relegation zone.

Villa come into this game after a 3-0 defeat away at Barcelona in the Champions League in midweek, but are five points above United in the Premier League table.

Man Utd v Aston Villa kick-off time

Man Utd v Aston Villa how to watch

The game will be shown live in the UK via Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event, with coverage starting from 4pm.

BBC Radio 5 Live will provide full match commentary.

Man Utd team news

The only blemish from Man Utd’s 3-2 win over Roma came when Carlos Baleba was forced off with a hamstring injury at the start of the second half.

The midfielder is now set for another spell on the sidelines and Youri Tielemans should come into the starting line-up against his former side.

Ayden Heaven or Matthijs De Ligt will start in place of the suspended Lisandro Martinez, with Leny Yoro expected to continue at right-back.

Luke Shaw remains sidelined due to an unspecified knock and Patrick Dorgu has made a gradual return to training after his recent hamstring injury, but is unlikely to be involved here.

Shea Lacey came off the bench to set up United’s winner against Roma and could now make his first Premier League start in place of Amad.

Marcus Rashford has been struggling with a hip issue in recent weeks, while Benjamin Sesko (shin) and Manuel Ugarte (knee) aren’t expected to return until 2027.

Aston Villa team news

Matty Cash picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Villa’s 1-1 draw with Fulham and now has to serve a one-match suspension.

Former United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is back in training after missing the last five games with a hamstring injury and will face a late fitness test.

If he isn’t able to start on his return to Old Trafford, midfielder Lamare Bogarde will fill in at right-back.

Left-back Matteo Ruggeri also has a hamstring injury, but isn’t expected to return until the end of November.

Amadou Onana ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while representing Belgium at the 2026 World Cup and is a long-term absentee.

Man Utd v Aston Villa odds

Despite only winning one Premier League game so far this season, Man Utd are favourites here and are quoted at 5/4.

Villa are 9/4 to win at Old Trafford, while The Draw is 29/10.

In the outright betting, Villa are 7/2 to finish in the top five and Man Utd are 4/1 to do likewise.

Man Utd v Aston Villa prediction

United’s comeback win against Roma in the Champions League provided some welcome respite for under-pressure manager Michael Carrick, and he will hope it can kick-start his side’s season.

They also have a strong record in this fixture with 13 wins from their last 15 meetings with Villa on home soil, including a 3-1 win at Old Trafford last season.

Villa have only ever won two Premier League games at Old Trafford, while manager Unai Emery has never won in nine visits to the stadium.

But with United picking up just seven points from their opening nine Premier League games this season, Villa and Emery have to fancy their chances here.

United are one of only two sides without a Premier League clean sheet this season, and they have conceded two or more goals in four of their six games at Old Trafford.

Back Over 1.5 Villa goals at 6/5.

United have enough firepower to get on the scoresheet as well, so we’re leaning towards Villa to win and Both Teams to Score at 4/1.

A 2-1 win for the visitors is available at 12/1.

To play it a little safer, Villa or Draw and Both Teams to Score can also be backed at 31/20.

Johan Manzambi has hit the ground running at Villa, registering three goals and three assists in his first seven starts. The Switzerland international is 7/4 to score or assist at Old Trafford.

Fellow summer signing Nicolas Jackson has five goals in his last five Premier League appearances and is 7/4 to score against United.

Matheus Cunha netted a brace in midweek and has scored in each of his last four Premier League games against Villa. He’s 9/4 to find the back of the net.
