Atletico chief insults Alvarez advisors as London meeting with Arsenal revealed by top insider

Arsenal transfer target Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez's advisors have been fired a shot by the Atletico Madrid CEO

Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has hit out at the advisors of Julian Alvarez as a meeting in London with Arsenal has been revealed.

Alvarez has been the subject of a lengthy saga running through the summer. He’s made it clear he’d like to go to Barcelona, who have pushed hard to land the Argentine.

However, Atletico have made it clear that if there’s one club he absolutely won’t be going to, it’s Barca.

While they and Alvarez have tried their best to force the move, it appears he’ll be an Atletico player again this summer.

The CEO of the Spanish giants, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, has said: “Atlético Madrid, like all the big clubs, is built with big players, and I am certain that Julián is one of them, as well as being a great professional. We must compete with our values, with the club’s own sons, and with the best players from outside whom we can sign.

“We will help Julián and we will continue to look after him so that he can give us all his potential, because we need him to keep competing among Europe’s elite.

“We must understand that Julián has not had the best advisers close to him regarding his professional career in recent months.

“The club will not allow other clubs and the media close to them to decide what we have to do, or to determine our sporting strategy, or to insult us.

“This is precisely what they are looking for: to divide us. Clearly we are not as strong as they are, but we have our values. Atlético Madrid’s fans will not allow them to taint us. Atlético Madrid is strong when we are all united.”

Arsenal meeting for Julian Alvarez revealed by Fabrizio Romano

Meanwhile, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed fellow suitors Arsenal, who have also been pushing hard for Alvarez, held a meeting in regards to the transfer.

He wrote on X: ‘Arsenal made contact with Atlético Madrid to discuss Julián Álvarez deal conditions.

‘Direct meeting took place in London with Atléti director Mateu Alemany.

‘Price currently too high + Julián never opened doors to England so far as wanted to join Barça… but #AFC tried.’

It has long been suggested that Barca is the only club Alvarez would like to exit Atletico for, and that has been reiterated despite the latest contact with the Gunners.
