Real Madrid make U-turn on Man Utd transfer decision as Mourinho wants him out
Man Utd have been given hope of landing Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga before the transfer deadline amid interest in Carlos Baleba, according to reports.
The Red Devils have already brought in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos as new midfield signings from Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
Atalanta’s Ederson was close to being a third midfield signing before a deal collapsed over medical concerns, and now Man Utd are looking elsewhere for another player in that position.
Brighton’s Baleba, who recently picked up an injury, and Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Camavinga have been among the names linked.
The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed on Wednesday that Man Utd are ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign Baleba from Brighton as they look to make a third midfield capture.
There have been rumours that Man Utd could prefer a deal for Tchouameni or Camavinga but that a deal for either had been labelled unrealistic this summer.

After Rodri decided to move to Barcelona over Real Madrid, Fabrizio Romano recently insisted that Camavinga is “even more motivated to stay and continue trying to convince” Jose Mourinho of his worth to the team.
Romano explained on his YouTube channel: “Many questions I’ve received in recent days were about Eduardo Camavinga, whether there’s still a possibility for Man Utd or for other clubs.
“Guys, Man Utd called the agents of Camavinga in July. United wanted to be informed.
“But the answer Camavinga is giving to all the clubs, United and those interested before United has always been the same – Camavinga wants to stay at Real Madrid.
“He wants to continue at Real Madrid and is not changing his mind. And so as of today there are no changes and he insists on staying at Real Madrid.
“And now with Rodri NOT joining Real Madrid, Camavinga is even more motivated to stay and continue trying to convince Jose Mourinho.”
Camavinga’s situation at Real Madrid ‘beginning to change’
However, reports in Spain insist that Mourinho ‘has already made a decision’ that he wants to sell Camavinga this summer with Man Utd still interested.

It is suggested that a deal for Man Utd or elsewhere could be back on this summer, which could see the Red Devils put a deal for Baleba on ice.
The report adds: ‘The main obstacle remains Camavinga himself. The Frenchman rejected an offer from Manchester United because he wanted to succeed in Madrid and was confident he could convince Mourinho. Now the situation is beginning to change. If he finds his playing time will be limited, he will have to decide between staying and fighting for a place in the starting lineup or accepting a project where he would have a much more prominent role.
‘The match against Espanyol could thus become more than just the league opener. Mourinho wants to win, but he also knows that a good performance from Camavinga could revitalise Manchester United and bring them closer to that €80 million price tag. The Frenchman will play to convince the manager, but also a potential buyer. If he delivers, the transfer market could accelerate. If he fails again, his value will continue to fall, and Real Madrid will lose ground in securing a sale that seems increasingly likely.’
