Ornstein confirms Man Utd have ‘reached agreement’ with Carrick; three reasons for decision revealed
According to respected reporter David Ornstein, Manchester United have ‘reached an agreement’ with Michael Carrick over becoming their new interim manager.
In recent days, Man Utd legend and former Middlesbrough manager Carrick has overtaken Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to become the frontrunner to replace Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
It has been a week since the Red Devils parted company with Amorim, who is set to be replaced by an interim boss until the summer. At the end of this season, the Premier League giants will look to appoint a more established boss to oversee a long-term rebuild.
In the meantime, Carrick has been tasked with steadying the ship for the remainder of this season, with Ornstein revealing to The Athletic on Tuesday morning that he has ‘reached an agreement’ with Man Utd.

Ornstein added: ‘The deal, which includes the former midfielder’s proposed staff, is subject to finalising contract details with an announcement expected soon.
‘Should everything progress as planned Carrick’s first game in charge would be against rivals Manchester City on Saturday at Old Trafford.’
Previous reports have revealed that Carrick has been backed over Solskjaer because he impressed Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox during talks, while he has support from players.
TalkSPORT have since revealed that ‘legendary former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recommended Carrick over Solskjaer’.

They explained: ‘Carrick wants [Darren Fletcher] to be on his coaching staff as well as Jonny Evans, who worked as Fletcher’s right-hand man for the FA Cup defeat as well as a draw to Burnley in the Premier League last week.
‘Carrick is hoping to recruit former Leeds, Newcastle, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Jonathan Woodgate to Old Trafford onto his coaching staff as well.’
Carrick will no doubt be relishing a return to Man Utd, but former defender Paul Parker has warned him that he could be ‘ridiculed for life’.
Parker said: “From now and until the end of the season will be a nightmare. It is a big worry that the caretaker will have to be there for almost half a season.
“But on the other hand, who wants the job right now at Man United? Almost no one. It is very interesting, because in the ideal world the next manager should be thinking about what he could become. He can become the next Sir Alex Ferguson.
“But the chances are that you are going to fail and be ridiculed for life. Your life and family life will be changed, and not in a good way.”
